The City of Suwanee held a grand opening celebration on June 1st, 2024, to welcome back the redeveloped community playground, PlayTown Suwanee. Established in 2004 through the collaborative efforts of hundreds of volunteers, the original PlayTown Suwanee quickly became the most beloved community playground, with its large and engaging play structures. After 20 years, the wooden materials needed replacing and it was decided the playground would be rebuilt.

The city wanted to once again make this a collaborative effort. Members from all aspects of the Suwanee community contributed to the design, from interviews with over 300 local schoolchildren, to involvement from local high school artists and Suwanee Youth Leaders (SYL), to a steering committee of adults.

Recognizing the importance of maintaining this cherished community asset, over 1200 volunteers including long time and new residents, parents and grandparents, city staff, and groups representing many facets of our community, rallied once again in the fall of 2023 to spearhead the construction of the new playground.

Thanks to massive support from the community and sponsor Primerica, PlayTown Suwanee has been brought back to life, spanning over 13,000 square feet, and the vibrancy of this new playground will have a lasting impact. Built primarily of recycled plastics, PlayTown Suwanee remains an environmentally conscious space for play. The playground features separate areas for toddlers and older children, a dinosaur fossil excavation activity area, and wheelchair accessible structures for all-inclusive play.

Months of teamwork, collaboration, and undeterred community spirit made the dream of rebuilding the cherished playground come to life.

PlayTown Suwanee is located at 425 Main St, Suwanee.
