Suwanee Wellness Center offers safe, non-surgical, multi-disciplined approach to the treatment of neck, lower back and other neuromuscular injuries
With today’s focus on convenience, more businesses are offering a variety of services under one roof. Apex Healthcare in Suwanee is no exception. Located next to Gold’s Gym, the wellness center offers medical and chiropractic care, physical therapy, interventional pain management, massage therapy as well as supervised weight loss programs and allergy testing and treatment programs.
“Our location allows our patients to be able to go to the gym to work out, leave their kid in daycare next door, pay a single co-pay and get all of the services we offer in one trip,” Dr. Curtis Pierce said.
The decision to become a doctor went hand in hand with Pierce’s love of sports. Extremely active in sports as a child, Pierce said he played soccer and baseball at the collegiate level. And, as a sports fanatic, he also suffered his share of injuries.
“I had a great amount of respect for the physicians, chiropractors and physical therapists who helped me get back on the playing field,” Pierce said. “In addition, my mother was a critical care nurse so I was always around health care. I always wanted to help as many people as possible, and being a doctor allows me to be a part of that each day. It is a very rewarding feeling to help a patient get past an injury or out of pain and enjoy their life to the fullest.”
Suwanee residents since 2004, Pierce said he and his wife found the decision to open a practice in Suwanee to be an easy one.
“Chris Palmer, the owner of Gold’s Gym, had let us know that they were opening a new facility in Suwanee and wanted us to be a part of their building,” Pierce said. “I also wanted to be close to the area where I worked so I could give back to the community in which I live, to help friends, neighbors and people I would meet out and about in Suwanee.”
Opening the practice was not without its challenges, though. Shortly after moving to Suwanee, Pierce broke both bones in his lower left leg while playing baseball.
“What should have been a quick fix turned into a month and a half in the hospital and two weeks in critical care due to complications and infection from the fracture,” he said. “The end result was the amputation of my left leg below the knee, to save my life.”
This happened about ten months before the Suwanee office opened, so Pierce’s recovery process was intense and opening the Apex office was a driving force that got him back on his feet.
“I take great pride in this office, as it is a special part of what kept me going after an unfortunate event,” he said.
And giving back to the community also remains important. “Suwanee has a great sense of community and strong drive to be great,” Pierce said. “We’ve always tried to take an active role in helping the city by sponsoring local youth sports teams and attending as many community events as possible. We were honored to be able to step up and donate our time and services to the members of the Get Fit Challenge.”
