Mega Package Store

Suwanee’s Mega Package Store has provided the community with an incredible selection of adult beverages for nearly 30 years.

Situated prominently on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road at the eastern end of the city limits, you’ll recognize the “Mega” structure, originally built in 1996 as a package store. Almost 30 years later, Mega Package Store continues to provide the community with an incredible selection of adult beverages.

Joshua Kang is the owner of this long-standing establishment. He is the youngest of four children and grew up in Illinois with three sisters. Kang earned his bachelor’s degree in public health from the University of Illinois. However, he realized he was more interested in owning and operating a business than he was a career in epidemiology. His father, a retired cab company owner from the Chicago area, instilled this ambition in him. To pursue his entrepreneurial dreams, Kang moved to Georgia and its business-friendly climate, where he opened and managed several successful car wash locations in and around Woodstock before turning his attention to adult beverages. In 2021, he became the proud owner of Mega Package Store. Kang’s story is a testament to the power of determination and hard work to achieve one’s dreams.

To take care of himself so he is always on top of his game, Kang has practiced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for about six years. He also thrives on routine and says he lives a “Groundhog Day” lifestyle. “I drive [to the martial arts studio] in the morning, 30 minutes, drive back 40 minutes, take a shower, get ready, and drive over here. That’s basically my routine every day. I know it sounds weird, but I love it!” While he currently lives in Woodstock, Kang travels to Suwanee daily to give his full attention to his customers, his employees, and Mega’s massive and dynamic inventory, demonstrating his dedication to being the best package store in the market.

Mega Selection

If you’ve never visited Mega Package, prepare to be impressed. The 11,000-square-foot building is filled with rows and rows of sparkling bottles, and the walls are lined with fully stocked coolers. Rare and precious liquors are tucked safely away in a locked cabinet for those extraordinary life events and celebrations. Friendly and knowledgeable staff greet you as you enter, and experienced managers are on hand to help with recommendations and special requests; with over 10,000 unique items on the shelves at any time, their assistance can be very welcome!

When asked about their most popular brand or type of beverage, Kang very quickly responded, “Hennessy.” Looking around the store, you can see plenty of evidence that supports that declaration. From signage to selection, Hennessy products are readily available. Mega also keeps the latest and greatest celebrity-attached spirits on hand: from tequilas to vodkas to craft beers, you need to look no further than Mega Package Store. From time to time, Kang will travel to a distillery to sample spirits and invest in a barrel or two to be bottled and private labeled for Mega Package. He has accumulated knowledge and developed a palate for choosing the flavor notes and proofs his customers prefer.

Mega Package Store previously conducted regular wine tastings in a designated Tasting Room, but due to pandemic restrictions, these events were stopped. Now that the rules have been relaxed regarding “liquid to lips,” suppliers hold tastings in-store so that customers can try different liquors and beverages before making a purchase. And although the tasting room is currently being used as storage for their fast-moving items, Kang would like to repurpose it as a mini-shop for products complementary to the package store.

Customers can follow them on social media to be the first to know about special tasting events, product raffles, limited releases, and special giveaways. Empty barrels are highly sought-after prizes for many Mega Package Stpre customers.
