The Faces of Suwanee — Meet Charles “Chuck” Vincent, Veteran
We were delighted to meet and spend time with a fascinating veteran living in our community who has so many interesting stories about his life well lived…
Please tell us a little about your family.
I was married 9 days shy of 45 years. I am a widower and have one son, three daughters, nine grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Tell us about your current and past career. What do you love most about it?
I served in the Marines for 3 years and the Army for 17 years. I served as a Marine in Korea and was in Vietnam for 3 years. I spent a total of 40 years total as a reservist and in special assignments. I spent 30 years in Civil Engineering after retiring as a Lt. Colonel from the Army. I love the military.
What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
A favorite is Bottles & Bones.
How long have you lived or worked here?
I have lived at Holbrook Sugar Hill since September 2022.
What is your favorite thing about Suwanee?
I love Suwanee Town Center. I had the pleasure of singing with my church at Suwanee Town Center.
What business or place — current or former — makes you feel the most nostalgic about Suwanee?
I love the downtown area businesses and restaurants.
If you could take anyone to lunch, dead or alive, who would that be? Where would you go?
I would take former president Truman and we would go to Bottles & Bones.
Where is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
I didn’t enjoy why I was there initially, and it may seem odd, but the mountains and rice patties of Vietnam are the most beautiful. I returned to Vietnam since the war and it was just as stunning.
What was the first movie you remember seeing in a theatre?
Top Hat, 1935/36 was the first movie I remember seeing in a theatre.
Tell me something that’s on your bucket list.
I would like to cruise the Rhine River. I booked my trip on September 9th and will be going in January of 2025!
What advice would you give to a crowd of people?
I would discuss leadership and how valuable it is in our society and world today.
What type of music do you like?
I’m not very fond of modern music. I prefer listening to music from the 40’s – 70’s, specifically Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, and the Big Band Soundound.
Tell me something interesting about you that most people don’t know.
I am still flying small planes. I flew recently out of Lawrenceville Airport in Gwinnett County. I took my first flying lessons in 1948.
Would you rather sing to a crowd of 50 people or speak to a crowd of 500?
I have always loved to sing, but my singing voice isn’t so great now, and I enjoy speaking when asked to.
