After a decade in the NFL, C.J. Uzomah has achieved Super Bowl Champion status under the Philadelphia Eagles in February 2025. Uzomah graduated from North Gwinnett High School in 2011, attended Auburn University until 2015, and was a fifth round draft pick for the Cincinnati Bengals that same year. He would spend the first nine seasons of his NFL career playing for the Bengals (2015-2021) and the New York Jets (2022-2023) before joining the Eagles in 2024. His story is one of personal growth, respect for his team, and commitment to the sport.
Uzomah is an undeniably gifted and experienced player, but his journey hasn’t always been easy. His first Super Bowl appearance under the Bengals in 2022 ended in a loss, but Uzomah showcased his determination and endurance by “catching two passes in that Super Bowl despite spraining a knee ligament in in the Bengals’ AFC Championship victory.” As if playing through an injury isn’t impressive enough, Uzomah’s presence in the four playoff games leading up to the Super Bowl LVI displayed the skills he’d both acquired and mastered from his years on the field. Uzomah faced a similar fate this past championship, finding himself placed on reserve/injured status as a result of an abdominal injury he received on January 1st of this year. While he might not have been added to the Super Bowl’s final roster in order to undergo proper healing, his talents and abilities were significant contributions in getting the Eagles to the Super Bowl game — specifically during weeks 11-17.
Uzomah’s ten-year journey has shown the value of dedication, persistence, and teamwork. Analyzing his involvement during his season with the Eagles exemplifies this; having evolved from a member of the practice squad to the active roster within a handful of weeks. “The 32-year-old tight end rejoined the Eagles from injured reserve on Jan. 30, and practiced with the team ahead of the Super Bowl… While he didn’t get to play in New Orleans, the North Gwinnett grad is still a Super Bowl champion.” Uzomah’s success story is both a testament to him as an individual player, and as an experienced member of the NFL. His ability to overcome the physical and mental tribulations brought about by external obstacles represent both his athletic abilities and love for the game.
