A Family Practice that Goes Beyond Family Medicine

Suwanee Family Physicians, located at 960 Peachtree Industrial Blvd. in Suwanee, Georgia is celebrating 17 years in practice this year. Dr. John Shih, D.O, FAAFP and his staff are grateful to the community they serve, their patients, and the families who have put their trust in them for the past seventeen years.
Dr. Shih is Board Certified in Family Medicine by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Board of Family Medicine and the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners. He recently expanded his practice by welcoming two certified Physician Assistants: Kanwal Tajani, PA-C and Karen Nguyen, PA-C. With Tajani and Nguyen’s experience in Family Medicine, Women’s Health Services and Counseling Psychology, Suwanee Family Physicians is able to add to their already-extensive list of services.
The care and services offered by Suwanee Family Physicians goes far beyond basic Family Medicine. Their on-site Urgent Care facility gives them the ability to offer urgent care attention without the co-pays of an emergency room or urgent care facility. They are able to take new patients and walk-ins for minor emergencies including lacerations, sprains or strains, and are able to provide IV fluids, lab and x-ray work. And while many doctor’s offices close at 4 or 5pm and are closed on weekends, Suwanee Family Physicians offers extended hours of 8am – 6pm on weekdays and 8am – 1pm on Saturday. Dr. Shih believes that when a patient needs to be seen they should be given same-day services and his staff strives to accommodate everyone’s busy schedules.
Setting him apart from other family practices even further, Dr. Shih and his team offer cosmetic services including: a 12-week medical weight loss program, Botox and Microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion can rejuvenate the skin to improve signs of aging, sun damage, acne scarring, stretch marks, altered pigmentation, enlarged or clogged pores, and fine lines and wrinkles. While the procedure is non-medical, it is comforting for many patients to have the hands of a trained doctor perform the treatment. Similarly, Dr. Shih has walked many patients through a successful weight loss journey with his program, called “Time for a Change.” The 12-week program is Physician directed and supervised and includes a full physical with an EKG and metabolic panel, personalized nutrition counseling and educational sessions as well as FDA approved medications depending on each patient’s custom needs.
A graduate of The Medical College of Georgia, Dr. Shih has been practicing in Georgia since 1995. Dr. Shih is a member of the AOA, AAFP, GFCMS,(Gwinnett Forsyth County Medical Society) MAG(Medical Association of Georgia) and a fellow of the AAFP. He is the current secretary of and in 1/2017 the Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at Gwinnett Medical Center. He is also Assistant Clinical Professor at Georgia PCOM. Along with being Board Certified in Family Medicine, he is a Senior Aviation Medical Examiner for the FAA and is certified to perform Class 1, 2 and 3 medical exams for pilots and flight professionals. He is also nationally Board Certified by the Department of Transportation to perform DOT exams for truck drivers.
As an active member of the Medical Association of Georgia and the Gwinnett-Forsyth Medical Society, Dr. Shih remains at the forefront of the local medical community, offering the best care and latest technologies for his patients.
