In March, five young leaders were recognized for their innovative projects aimed at improving the quality and accessibility of their community. These projects, undertaken through both Girl Scouts and Scouting America, exemplified dedication, leadership, and a strong commitment to service.

Three Scouts from Scouting America’s Troop 5109, based out of Sugar Hill/Buford Presbyterian, earned the prestigious Eagle Scout rank for their impactful projects:

  • Katie Brown, a senior at Peachtree Ridge, was recognized for her wheelchair-accessible tables at PlayTown and Suwanee Creek Park pavilions.

  • Reese LaPierre, a senior at Seckinger, earned her Eagle Scout rank by constructing bat nesting boxes at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Suwanee.

  • Sarah Takahashi, a senior at North Gwinnett, refurbished a gaga ball pit that was originally an Eagle Scout project at Epiphany Lutheran Church.

In addition, two Girl Scouts from different troops in the area achieved the highest honor within the Girl Scouts organization, the Gold Award:

  • Sophia Bunyasaranand, a senior at North Gwinnett and member of Girl Scout Troop 2420, built wheelchair-accessible planter boxes at the White Oak Elementary garden.

  • Audrey Johnson, a senior at Peachtree Ridge and a member of Girl Scout Troop 2440 in Suwanee, created a sensory respite tent at Suwanee Fest to provide a calming space for overwhelmed children and parents.

Both organizations, Scouting America and Girl Scouts, continue to foster leadership, resilience, and community-mindedness in young people across the country. These five individuals have not only earned distinguished awards but have also left lasting, positive impacts on the Suwanee community.
