Gwinnett’s Finest Roast & Toast

Honoring Gwinnett County Commission Chair, Charlotte Nash & Gwinnett Chamber President, Dr. Dan Kaufman

In the tradition of the iconic Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts of the 1970’s, we are about to turn up the heat on two of Gwinnett County’s most respected leaders as they will be on the receiving end of jokes, jabs, and good natured fun from a panel of long-time friends and colleagues.

On Saturday, June 9th at the historic Bona Allen Tannery in Buford, friends, family and community leaders will gather together at the inaugural Gwinnett’s Finest: Roast & Toast to honor Gwinnett County Commission Chair, Charlotte Nash, and Gwinnett Chamber President, Dr. Dan Kaufman. This special occasion will feature an evening of laughter, tall tales, & hilarious “roasting” as the honorees will be celebrated for their dedication to family, citizenship, and responsibility. After the honorees survive the gentle jokes and friendly fire, each will be toasted in recognition of their significant achievements in enhancing the quality of life for all citizens of Gwinnett County through their respective professional and community contributions.

An all-star line-up of roasters will be showcasing their sharpest comedic talents that are sure to reduce the audience to tears of laughter and soda-through-the-nose giggles at this no-holds barred affair. Roasters include Stan Hall, Dr. Gordon Harrison, Wayne Hill, Lawrenceville Mayor Judy Jordan-Johnson, Anthony Rodriguez, Bill Russell, Richard Tucker, Phil Wolfe, and Pastor Larry Wynn. In addition, Gwinnett Medical Center’s Chief Operating Officer, Jay Dennard, will serve as the evening’s Roastmaster.

One-hundred percent of the proceeds raised through this unique special event will support the mission and work of Hi-Hope Service Center to provide comprehensive, lifelong supports to empower adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to define and live their most independent, inclusive and meaningful life.

“It’s an honor Hi-Hope Service Center selected me to be roasted,” Chairman Nash said. “I’m looking forward to a memorable evening with friends and colleagues – many of whom I’m sure have been waiting a long time for this day – but I’m truly flattered to be supporting Hi-Hope and all they do for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our community.”

For more than 35 years, two iconic water towers stood as landmarks when entering Gwinnett County from interstates I-285 and I-85. Big and boastful, they displayed the messages “Success Lives Here” and “Gwinnett Is Great”. While the legendary towers no longer exist, one would be hard-pressed not to include Chairman Nash and Dr. Kaufman as individuals that have helped make these statements continue to ring true today.

Whether through their respective professional careers, community service activities, or family responsibilities, each honoree has demonstrated personal character, work ethic, and a commitment to our community that truly epitomizes the true meaning of servant leadership.

When I initially approached Dr. Kaufman about the event, he said ‘you overestimate the number of friends I have’ and I jokingly replied ‘you underestimate the number of people that will line up to have fun at your expense.’ Bill Russell, one of the evening’s featured roasters and a longtime friend of Kaufman said, “Dan Kaufman is a great American with impeccable integrity and we’re going to roast and toast him like the regional celebrity that he is!” It will be that kind of night: love and laughs. We only roast the ones we love.
