Our lives have changed a lot in the past two years. As a result, the kitchen has become one of the most important rooms in the house. Not only do we gather for meals in our kitchen, we use it for a classroom and sometimes our home office. The way our kitchens look and function is more important than ever. Here are the kitchen trends you’re sure to start seeing in 2022:
1. Smart Kitchens
Technology has entered our kitchens from appliances to faucets. You can now have a fridge that lets you know when you’re low on groceries, a faucet that turns on with a wave of your hand, or a coffee maker that will have the coffee ready when you wake up. You can even control your lights from your smartphone.
2. Large Islands
Having an island is certainly not a new idea, but it is one of the things on many of our kitchen remodeling clients’ wish lists. They want a big island for eating, doing homework and working. Having an island with on-point storage for items like silverware, homework supplies, and dinnerware makes your space even better.
3. White Cabinets
They’re still the most popular pick for kitchen cabinets. 41% of kitchen remodeling clients are choosing white. White is timeless, however, mixing white with raw wood tones is increasingly popular as is adding a pop of color like blue or green. As for cabinet style, 64% of us are choosing shaker style cabinets.
4. Quartz
Quartz is still king when it comes to countertops. Quartz countertops are extremely durable, easy to maintain, anti-microbial and can last forever. For busy kitchens quartz is your best choice and is now available in a wide variety of colors and patterns.
5. Storage
The right storage strategies can create a highly functional kitchen. Better storage solutions within cabinetry can ease frustrations and avoid unused space. These can include drawer dividers for cutlery and utensils, roll-out trays, appliance garages for small appliances, deep drawers, caddies for pots and pans, as well as pull-out trash cans for trash and recycling.
6. Statement Exhaust Hoods
In 2022 we will see more homeowners making their exhaust hood a focal point in their kitchen. Custom steel hoods or hoods that add a pop of color are increasingly popular and add a breaking point in a long row of wood cabinetry.
7. Flooring
Wood floors are still our No. 1 choice for flooring, but luxury vinyl has doubled in popularity and is a great choice for kids and pets. It’s super durable, easy to keep clean, and comes in wood and even tile looks.
In conclusion, let these trends serve as design ideas but the most important advice to keep in mind for your kitchen remodel is to make it your own.
