It is easy for some children to feel lost in a large, public school setting. This is why Omega Learning prides itself on what they call the “Omega Difference” – a SACS accredited program that offers: individualized instruction; caring, certified teachers; proven academic growth; daily communication from tutor to parent and teacher at school; and a safe, positive learning environment.
With tutoring programs in all subjects – including foreign language, SAT/ACT/GA Milestones test prep and study skills – Omega Learning Center tailors instruction based on each student’s particular needs and assessment results.
Many of the students who are enrolled in the Academy started in the tutoring program and quickly realized the advantage of having even further individualized attention. With an 8:1 student teacher ratio, the AdvancED accredited school has proven to give students a leg up when it comes to learning. “With a small ratio we have the ability to give constant attention to our students. For instance, we have a 4th grader functioning on a 7th grade vocabulary level and a 3rd grade math level, and we are able to customize his curriculum, so we can fill those skill gaps,” explained Burkes. “Each student has his or her own unique goal and our goal is to provide them with customized instruction to give them confidence and help them achieve,” she continued. The Academy even offers IEP scholarship enrollment for students with special needs or learning disabilities.
Omega Learning is also committed to giving back to the local Suwanee community, by partnering with other schools in the area. They help with their funding for books, participate in Kindle Fire reading contests with them, offer tutoring services for their students and participate in some of the other school ‘s programs. Omega Learning’s summer programs include SAT & ACT Boot Camps, credit recovery programs where students may have failed a class during the school year and need to pass, and summer enrichment classes to help prepare students for the following grade level.
Omega Learning is a faith-based organization whose core values are summed up by the acronym F.I.R.S.T: faith, integrity, respect, service and teamwork. “We are driven by our Christian values and a passion for excellence,” said Burkes. Their goal is to provide superior educational services and build a stronger community, one family at a time. “We treat all of our customers with integrity and won’t ever sell them services they don’t need or that don’t fit their student’s needs,” she continued.
Before opening Omega Learning in Suwanee, Burkes spent a career in finance and business. But growing up with her mom as an educator inspired her desire to help others and make a difference. By using her background in experience in business management, Burkes is able to do just that at Omega Learning Suwanee. She has even pursued extra educational training herself so that she knows how to effectively lead her certified instructors. “I’m able to reach the students and touch their lives, while still being on the business side,” she said. But, her favorite part about the job: watching students succeed and grow to love learning.
