Best Sugar Rush

Located in Sugar Hill, Scoops is much more than your average ice cream shop. In addition to the 32 flavors of handcrafted ice cream, Scoops is also a kid’s paradise with walls covered in an assortment of candies, chocolates and other goodies — think old-school candy, cookies, gumball machines, truffles, ice cream floats and more. Yes, more. Flavors include Cookie Monster, yellow cake batter, sea turtle, brownie batter, Key Lime pie, banana pudding — and that’s just the tip of the ice(cream)berg. Scoops is located at 5029 W. Broad St. N.E., Suite T-134, in downtown Sugar Hill. ScoopsIceCream.com/sugar-hill

Best Lunch Spot
We take our group lunch orders seriously here at Suwanee Magazine, and for us, nothing beats the workday rut like a refreshing salad from our friends at Rico’s World Kitchen in Buford! My favorite is the strawberry salad with grilled chicken. Other standout menu items include the “Royal Rooster” (a fried habañero chicken sandwich) and the “Mojo Pork” (hickory-smoked pork with guava barbecue sauce). Be sure to check their Facebook page for daily specials! Rico’s World Kitchen is located at 306 W. Main St. in downtown Buford. RicosWorldKitchen.com

Best Cold Drink
I need to give a huge shoutout to Sam, a Rushing Trading Co. team member, who introduced my new go-to order and current obsession: a large iced matcha latte with oat milk and a splash of coconut flavoring. This is sunshine in a cup! If you’ve never tried matcha, it is a great coffee alternative for anyone who needs a caffeine kick without the coffee jitters. Matcha has a unique flavor profile and is naturally sweet, nutty, and slightly bitter but has a savory ending. Not a coconut fan? Ask your Rushing Trading Co. team member for additional flavor options — vanilla is my second favorite. Try this drink next time you visit! Rushing Trading Co. is located at 5029 W. Broad St. N.E. in downtown Sugar Hill. RushingTradingCo.com

Best Outdoor Event

I’m so excited to take the kiddos to one of my favorite Suwanee events: the Summer Porch Jam. With similar vibes to an old-school block party, the Summer Porch Jam hosts musicians on outdoor stages (and porches, of course) at multiple venues throughout Old Town Suwanee — including the mayor’s front porch! The event is fun for the whole family and in addition to the music there will be food trucks and beverages along with good ol’ summertime fun! Bring a chair or blanket and sit back and enjoy the tunes. Summer Porch Jam takes place Friday, June 18, from 6-10 p.m. throughout Old Town Suwanee. For more information, visit Suwanee.com.
